Traffic Rules: Whose responsibility is it?

Last weekend we decided to drive out of the city to Kabini. On our way back on the Mysore Highway, I spotted this car, whose number plate was completely written in vernacular! Aren’t car numbers or for that matter vehicle number plates supposed to be displayed in English too? This is an obvious flouting of rules! Imagine such a car speeding along on the national highway.

I just wondered what happens if God forbid the car is involved in a hit and run? Even if I were to witness the accident, I will not be able to report the car…because it all appears Latin to me.

Thankfully I had my camera with me, and I decided to click this picture and upload it.

Who do you think is to blame more in this case-the owner of the car for obviously flouting rules or the RTO for letting such a car on the roads?

People will always try different ways to fool the authorities. It has to be the RTO in this or any case which should take strict action. Had it been a case in England he would have been ticketed and fined heavily but then don’t we know this is India and such things can only and only be expected here. Fully appreciate your effort in clicking this image Nishi.

I guess apart from the RTO, I wish there was some way we could have a citizens forum where erring members of the public could be hauled up, and made to comply with the rules.

That way is involving the public in general at the time of litigations. It is here where most evidences fail Nishi, two like -minded people cannot change the world at odds with them. Despite having our right to vote, we don’t practice it judiciously and nominate people who aren’t worth becoming ministers.
