By stalling Bachchan starrers, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ( MNS) is making the life of producers, distributors and exhibitors hell. I am sure a lot of these producers, distributors and exhibitors are Marathis, so are they by their disruptive and anti-social activities doing anything good for Maharashtra? Agree that in a democracy every person is entitled to his/her opinion but this is just goonda-raj of MNS.
Jaya Bachchan’s casual yet tactless remark (well, being a public persona one has to be so much more careful as to what one says especially in a public function) at the music launch function certainly did not warrant tearing down posters, issuing threats to the Bachchan family and blocking the premier of the award-wining movie The Last Lear in PVR Mumbai.
Mumbai is a prime territory for the Hindi film industry, not only does it bring prosperity to the actors but also to the entire state in the form of taxes and revenues. Bollywood can only flourish if Mumbai (a city, which has till date always welcomed people from every part of the world) remains incident free.
MNS I am sure does not voice the sentiments of aam-aadmi. Checks and balances should be put in place so that due to the whims of one political figure, the whole state should not suffer. Killing the golden-goose is not one of the most intelligent things to do, general public and rational-thinking people should get together see that Maharashtra does not go the Bengal way.
anyway, this matter is much deep rooted than movies or films. its clash of cultures with harmless maharashtrians on one side and agressive, lawless, terrorist breeding biharis and bhaiyyas on other.
Prejudiced minds can never decide when passions flare up. Those threatening are law breakers. Government’s inaction is due to petty politics. Rise and fall of Shiv Sena or MNS is for finding their own political space. If Marathi sensibilities are getting hurt on these small issues there is something wrong with the people whose sensibilities have become so sensitive that it can’t allow another person his legal rights in free India.
No Marathi leader who had the stuff in him to be a pan-Indian leader came up. Marathis spawned only narrow minded, divisive, and rabid leaders in the last 60 years.
That way Marathis have made losers out of themselves. Most Marathis are stupid people. They simply don't have the brains or the guts that makes a Bihari a Bihari.
In Agra, Shivaji is a jail breaker, at Surat he is a plunderer (lootera). In Maharashtra he is demi-god.
Good post!
One should not forget after all its Amitabh Bachchan’s family and SRK who perform for all fund raising programs in Maharashtra!
While politicising and whipping up sentiments some leaders don’t know which issue to pick up and where to draw a line...
In this globalised world, where populations have to migrate, its futile to raise such religionalistic issues...instead they should demand better education for all people of the state to be able to compete in job markets..its poor quality leaders who are ruining our country and its peace!
Good post!
I Thank you for giving your thoughts.
Dear All,
Let us all support Raj Thackeray and THEKEDAR of Marathi to take his initiative ahead by doing more…
1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, don’t study harder.. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school
2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in delhi
3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi
4. No Hindi movie should be made in Bombay. Only Marathi.
5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men
6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING employment from Locals
7. Lord Shiv, Ganesha and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas)
8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people from UP only
9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from centre because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to
someone in Maharashtra?
10. Let’s support Kashmiri Militants because they are right in killing and injuring innocent people for the benefit of their state and community..
11. Let’s throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra, why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Microsoft, MH Pepsi and MH Marutis of the world
12. Let’s stop using cellphones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas. James Bond should speak Marathi
13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states
14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside
15. We should STOP using local trains… Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bangali
16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharasthra, then they will become true Marathis

2 Maharashtra among states worst affected by communal violence: Home Ministry
Maharashtra — which have been ruled by ‘secular’ political parties for the last four years — were among the worst affected by communal violence during that period. While Maharashtra — which as recently as this Monday was shaken a bomb blast in Malegaon and a communal riot over a Navratri pandal in Thane — has witnessed 637 incidents of communal violence since 2004, about one-fifth of the total in the entire country, Uttar Pradesh accounted for the maximum number of deaths — 176 — in communal clashes in the last four years.
Not surprisingly, therefore, a recent assessment report by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, while expressing satisfaction over the declining trend in casualties, admitted that the communal situation in the country “remains fragile”.
“Even though there have not been any major riots, as such, in recent times, the communal situation remains fragile,” it said.
From 133 deaths in 2006, the figure dropped to 99 in 2007, but the number of incidents increased in the corresponding period. The first eight months of 2008 have already accounted for 83 lives without counting the dead in the recent round of attacks on Christians.

5 FARMER SUICIDES
Maharashtra: The graveyard of farmers
The state has witnessed 30,000 farm suicides in a decade. Vidarbha is the worst place in the nation to be a farmer, writes P Sainath.
Nearly 29,000 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra between 1997 and 2005, official data show. No other State comes close to that total. This means that of the roughly 1.5 lakh farmers who killed themselves across the country in that period, almost every fifth one was from Maharashtra - which saw a 105 per cent increase in farm suicides in those nine years. More than 19,000 of those farmer suicides occurred from 2001 onwards.

Only 11.5% charge sheeted molestation cases are convicted in Maharashtra
January 5, 2008 by CyberGandhi
NEW DELHI: The indifference of the Mumbai top cops to the ghastly case of molestation in upscale Juhu is entirely in keeping with the state police’s track record on crimes against women. For, when it comes to conviction rates of crimes against women, Maharashtra’s record is worse than almost all other states.
In cases of molestation, for instance, only 11.5 out of every 100 offenders charge sheeted, are convicted in Maharashtra, against the all-India average of 30.7%.
The only states with a lower conviction rate for molestation are Jammu & Kashmir with 11.2%, West Bengal’s with 11%, Gujarat with 6.9% and Karnataka with 6.2%.
Maharastra’s 10.1% conviction rate for cases of sexual harassment is the lowest among all states, if one excludes Goa and Arunachal Pradesh, which had very few cases of this crime.

9 Shobhaa De on Raj Thackeray, MNS and Maharashtra
Recently Shobhaa De made an appearance on Karan Thapar’s Devil’s Advocate and had a few answers to questions from Karan about the MNS, Raj Thackeray, Mumbai vs Bombay etc etc. I did not catch the interview on TV, but came across the transcript on the Cnn-IBN website.
This article is critical of Shobhaa De. But that does mean that I am against Maharashtrians. If your brain is so small, you should not be on this site anyway. I personally believe that Maharashtrians’ economic status, jobs and culture - all are important issues under threat. And I would write about my suggestions for them too. But this is specific to the interview.
