The cup of joy of Indians all over the world has run over ever since the Taj Mahal won its coveted place in the new list of the 7 wonders of the world. The voting exercise was undertaken by the not-for-profit Swiss organization New7wonders Foundation.
But, the Indian government is not as overjoyed as the common man. Infrastructure requirements of Agra are far from satisfactory, and with this win the government is anticipating an increased influx of almost 60% of both domestic and foreign tourists. No wonder, the tourism industry is having high level meetings to take stock of the infrastructure situation.
The government has reasons to be worried because nearly 5 million tourists visit the Taj in Agra every year. This year with all the hype and the hoopla the number of tourists will definitely increase and cause a serious crunch on the available resources.
It is high time that the tourism industry wakes up from its slumber, so that tourists have one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences when they come to visit the monument of eternal love of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan for his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal.
