Really happy that inspite of all the odds, Debabratra is finally able to live like a woman.

Nishi, I too had done a similar story long back in the year 2000, about a boy, all of 18yrs of age, determined to become a girl against all odds. He belonged to a lower middle class family in Delhi where his parents never supported him. When I was researching for this story, I came to know about the struggle that this boy( Adam then, Adrena now), had to go through.
He too loved dancing and make up and was working as a beautician in a salon in Delhi. He actually worked hard for nearly three years to gather all the money he could for his sex change operation and dozens of hormone dozes. He finally has achieved what he wanted to with determination. It is very tough in the society that we live in to change and to be able to live the way one wants to!
If possible I would send that story to you.

Hey, Neha pls do...it would be interesting to read about it. It requires immense courage to brave all odds, esp. something as intrinsic as one’s sexuality.

Learnt about an another facet of ’hard reality’.
Touch wood, all went well with Ritu. You never know when your ’homo-partner’ gets all ’pressurized’, changes his/her mind and turns his/her back to you ! Good to know that Raj didn’t do that but instead supports her in everything. God bless them.

Atlast Indian society seems to be opening up...at least people like Debabrata are voicing their life stories!

@Yeah, it does take a lot of courage to have your life-story published and your photograph splashed in the media.

This is not new or unique. Such things continue to happen and will continue to happen in the future. Thanks to advanced medical science that it is now possible to emancipate a man trapped in woman's body and vice-versa from the physical cast.

I am happy for Reetu formerly known as Debabrata... At least, she can now lead the rest of her life as she always wanted. Otherwise, she would have had the feeling of being in perpetual imprisonment from where there was no escape. We must not forget that she is NOT a homosexual. Homosexuals are different.
In Thailand we hold annual transvestite pageants and they are very popular to the people here cutting across sexual orientations and genders.

I heard the story of Debabrata alias Reetu and Raj last year. A very brave story of a brave girl in a boy's body. I am happy that she has found a perfect soulmate in Raj. May God bless them and they live happily ever after.

She is lucky to have lived both as a man and a woman. But I guess she is really a freak and I cannot be too sympathetic to her. But anyway, she is a free individual and free do to whatever she wishes to with her body.

@Minaz ...calling Ritu a freak...I think that’s a tad unfair

I wonder what happened to Bobby Darling that irritating but somewhat loveable effeminate man who wants to have a sex change operation. I was sad when they threw him out of the Indian version of Big Brother aka "Big Boss". I sure hope he continues to get sidey roles in Bollywood movies and saves enough for his operation.

While we are on t5he subject of sex change operations, it reminds of the great movie "Dog day afternoon", one of Al Pacino's best and Sidney Lumet's too where Pacino's character holds people in a bank hostage so that he can get money for sex change operation of his boyfriend.
One of the ebst realistic movies ever made.

Does anyone have any reading material about the psychological aspects of having a sex change operation? I mean news interviews are one thing but detailed Oral Histories will surely help students of social anthropology.
Isn't it marvelous that we are still evolving and this time even Darwin will have things to chuckle about.

@Kathlene
You can throw your questions here Kathlene, I did a story like this in yr 2001 and the person got his sex change operation done just an year back. He went htrough a lot of bad situations. For having a sex change operation, one need to go thorugh end number of psychological counsellings. This lasts nearly an year. It is basically to judge whether the person who is about to gte his operation done, actually knows what the consequences are going to be. Since this operation is irreversible. Along with all this one has to continuously take hormones to get into the desired mould(male/female).
Not to forget the Social repurcursions. An orthodox society or even an evolving society does not easily accept such people. SO the fight (it is a small word for this it should be war!) .. The war is on psychologicla, social, economic.... all the levels. The operations are quite expensive.
If there is more you want to know.. Pls feel free.
